The Tools- Backpack or Bag

When moving through a haunted locale, you'll be bringing a lot of equipment with you. Not only that, but you'll want to have something to drink, as well as a place to store clothing if you wore layers and need to remove something.

Any bag you choose should be lightweight, adjustable, and comfortable to wear. It should be large enough to hold the items you need it to carry, and small enough to be easily packed if you’re including it among other luggage.

One of the bags we especially like is this Venture Pal 40L backpack. It weighs only a pound, folds into itself for easy storage, and is made of a lightweight nylon. There’s an extra buckle that goes across your chest to keep it secure and stop it from pulling on your shoulders and back, which makes it much more comfortable. The shoulder straps themselves are padded, so they’re more comfortable for longer wear.

Mesh pouches on the side are great for water bottles, and there are plenty of pockets to sort your tools and other items in an organized way. There’s even a wet bag attached to the interior, perfect if your shoes get wet and you want to stash them for the ride home without damaging anything.

It helps that it comes in various attractive colors, as well!

If you’d prefer a smaller option, another bag we’ve used before is this Retro Sling Shoulder Bag. It’s a purse, yes, but it worked wonderfully during a hunt when I had back issues and the backpack was too much for that night.

The strap is long enough to turn it into a crossbody, giving far more support. There is an inner pocket, as well as an outside and inner zipper pouch. All are made well, stitched properly, and handle weight without strain.

It held all of our tools, batteries, and a 24oz metal water bottle, and didn’t hurt my back to wear it for the 4 hour event. For shorter events when the full backpack isn’t needed, I’ll definitely bring the sling bag again.

If you’re looking for a more unisex option, we can suggest this multi-functional canvas bag. It is a good size and has lots of pockets for your kit, as well as a pocket for your water bottle. You might also like the option of a sling bag, as you can put it over your shoulder to reduce strain through the night. This option is affordable and comes in a ton of colors.
