The Tools- Travel First Aid Kit

Bumps and bruises are part and parcel of wandering around derelict locations. It's best to be prepared, and a travel kit comes in handy, especially one that you've customized for your needs.

Putting together your own kit is a good way to ensure you have everything you need. While you can get individual packets of things on Amazon and supply stores, you can start with a premade kit and then add your own items, if it’s easier.

We suggest a first aid ointment for scrapes and cuts, alcohol wipes, eye drops in case something gets in your eye, Band-Aids, and an anti-itch cream for anything you might touch or get into that requires it. A pair of tweezers or fingernail clippers wouldn’t go amiss, either… splinters or glass shards happen, and so do split nails.

For medications, having a few small labelled Ziploc bags that contain Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Benadryl, Imodium AD, Tums, and an inhaler if you require one will go a long way toward taming any issues that might crop up.

Tiny Ziploc bags can be found in the craft section of any big grocery store that has one, like Walmart, Meijers, or Target. Some have them in the medicine section with the pill organizers, as well.

One of our favorite containers for our homemade first aid kits isn’t made for that at all, it’s a portable hard drive case. Still, it’s perfect for holding everything you need, including tiny packages of medicines and ointments.

If you take a lot of medication and prefer having extras of specialized medications, the Travel Pill Box is another option just for medication. We keep these in our purses or glove boxes, so we always have our prescription medications, like migraine medicines or nausea medicines on hand.

No matter what, make sure to personalize your kit. Try to think of situations you generally find yourself in, medications you usually need, and customize it from there. It will become an invaluable item in your toolbox, because you’ve added in things you know you will eventually need and use.
